NEW Eolyn research data
Important cytokines in the inflammatory process are IL-1b (Interleukin 1 beta), IL-6 (Interleukin 6), TNF-a (tumornecrosefactor alpha). Upon contact with bacterial cell wall structures (typically LPS, lipopolysaccharides) IL-1b and IL-6 cytokines are intensely produced by endothelial cells. Increasing amounts of IL-1b (1) affect the activity of the hypothalamus (which leads to a rise in body temperature (fever)) and (2) trigger the expression of adhesion factors on endothelial cells to enable transmigration (also called diapedesis) of immunocompetent cells, such as phagocytes, lymphocytes and others. After arrival of immune cells at the inflammatroy site, TNF-a activates macrophages and natural killer cells; IL-6 promotes cytotoxic T cells; both IL-6 and TNF-a stimulate production of acute phase reactant protein by the liver; and ensure expression of COX-2 that results in production of Prostaglandins (enhances inflammation and pain signalling).
In vitro anti-inflammatory tests have been done with a RAW264. 7 macrophage cell line. After an LPS trigger, production of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1b, IL-6 and TNF-a was monitored via ELISA assay. Second, the dose dependent effect of Eolyn® on cytokine production was studied. Results are shown, indicating a dose dependent effect of Eolyn® on the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
A poultry house in Thailand having 27 500 birds had a suden increase in mortality from day 20. This increase in death rate was the result of IBD & IBH virus infections. A PCR (polymerase chain reaction) based laboratory test (performed at KU university, Bangkok, www.ku.ac.th) confirmed inclusion body hepatitis. Treatment of the flock started at day 23, having a mortality rate of 1,12% at that time. This included 500 mL Eolyn® and Infinite VH ® per 1000 L drinking water. After 4 day treatment, mortallity rates dropped drastically to normal levels of 0,09%.
A swine house in Thailand having 100 nursery pigs were given 500 mL Eolyn/1000 L drinking water (during week 4 and 5). Results were compared with a control house receiving similar treatment and feeding protocol. Monitoring was done on feed intake and weight gain, morbidity and mortality rates and interleukine levels (Il-1b, IL-6 and TNFa) in serum samples taken on week 4, 6 and 8 (indicated as “Before”, “2w after” and “4w after”). Results showed that nursery pigs receiving Eolyn had a significant higher weight gain, compared to control pigs. Mortality levels were 38% lower when Eolyn was given, greatly improving performance parameters. Pro-inflammatory cytokine levels dropped remarkably (TNFa levels are shown on the image) after Eolyn treatment.
